I keep telling myself I'm going to stop posting about vegan burgers in my next blog post, but in a press release today, the inevitable has happened:

Get used to saying "No, I said a P LT" at the drivethru

McDonalds is now testing the "Plant. Lettuce. Tomato" burger in select Canadian locations. Here are your vegan questions answered

So is it vegan?

Well...is anything at McDonalds really vegan? That's a question we won't touch here, but as far as we can tell, this is a similar scenario as the Impossible Whopper which includes dairy based condiments and is cooked on the same surface as their meat by default. Burger King provides the option to bake the burger instead but this defeats the purpose of partaking in BK's famous "flame broiled" cooking method. Also I tried the baked and dairy condiment free version of the IW and it was not worth coming back for.

It's not clear from the press release if McDonalds plans to offer vegan friendly cooking methods.

How does it taste?

We haven't tasted it yet, but hear from yourself from someone who has:

THIS JUST IN πŸ“° @McDonalds is Launching their First Ever PLANT BASED BURGER!!! πŸŒ±πŸ” THE P.L.T. ☝️☝️ . . Starting this Monday Sept. 30th, 28 @mcdonaldscanada locations across Southern Ontario (predominantly London, ON) will be the first in the WORLD to taste it! πŸ˜΅πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ . . I was 1 of only 100 people that got to taste test the burger this afternoon, & here’s what I thought. Comparing it to other plant based burgers that I’ve had (not to mention any names) the thing that I liked about the P.L.T. was that you can tell that it’s been cooked like a proper burger. It’s clearly done on a flattop grill, because it actually had a good char on the patty. Some of the competition seems to just microwave their patties, and that’s just not acceptable in the burger world. This new @beyondmeat patty combined with the usual toppings and sauces of your typical McDonals burger ~ mustard, ketchup, lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, & cheddar cheese all nestled between two soft, warm sesame seed buns and you have a plant based burger that fits right in with the McDonals menu. Now vegetarians and vegans (if you take out the cheese) can enjoy a @mcdonalds burger too. . . Thanks to @mcdonalds & @mcdonaldscanada for having at their official tasting today! . . . . #boltonsbites #plantbasedburger #plt #mcdonalds #mcdonaldscanada #beyondmeatburger #beyondmeat #beyondburger #burgersto #tastetoronto #devourpower #foodbeast #blogto #πŸ” #fastfood
